La selva encantada by Francisco Mingorance ~ On the northern side of the island of Gomera, the coldest and wettest area of the island is National Park Garajonay. Here, sheltered by the almost constant fog develops one of the most exclusive samples and varied vegetation of the Canary Islands. Fayas, heather, acebiños, laurels, are intermingled in many areas leading to authentic saved impenetrable. In spring the meadows and clear bursts into a thousand colors covering a vast tapestry of geraniums canaries. The high variability mesoclimatic, along with the isolation of the islands and the passage of time, have resulted in an exceptionally rich nature, diverse and unique (with a high percentage of endemism) organized as a unique ecosystem that has made these the islands considered out of here as “miniature continent” and worthy of visits since the beginning of the great scientific expeditions to this day.
